Boys Varsity Soccer vs. OPEN (Multiple Opponents)

Game Date
Oct 23, 2015
Score
WOLVES: 2
OPEN (MULTIPLE OPPONENTS): 1

In a game that lived up to all the hype, Timberline Boy’s soccer had retribution for their only loss of the year.  And more importantly it came when it counted most.  The Wolves defeated the Centennial Patriots 2=1 in one of the most exciting games I’ve seen all year.  The first half was dominated by Timberline, but just like last time they met they could not finish.  Shots barely zipped by the goal, some hit the crossbar and Centennial’s goalie had some good saves that kept the game even through the first 25 minutes.  Midway through the first half Alain Muhala, after schooling some of the Patriot defenders slotted a shot into the back netting., and the crowd went wild!!!!  This provided the Wolves with their first lead over Centennial, a lead they would not concede.  While they were ahead Timberline did not stop pressing against the stout Centennial defense and nearing the end of the first half Cole Fuller finished a Zac Fishburn cross to put the Wolves up by two.

The second half started with Timberline showing the same intensity as the first.  Players like Rowan Pierson a center midfielder, along with Skyler Munroe , and Josh Fishburn helped spur the Wolves on with their inspired play. Soon the pace of the game began to change and the Wolves began pressing off the gas allowing Centennial their chance to strike,  The Patriots through everything but the kitchen sink at Timberline, constantly changing line-ups just looking for a chink in the Wolf armor.  Parker Billings began to shine as he rejected the Patriot offense time and time again motivating his defense with help from senior Eric Bambic to hold strong.

As the play from Centennial became more physical outside backs Jack Johnson and Gaven Hansen met the challenge head on, not relenting against Centennial’s pressure.  With ten minutes left in the game Centennial was able to take advantage of some errant clearance attempts from Timberline as they scored bringing the score to 2-1, with little time left.  Now it was a battle for a place in the state final!!

Centennial pushed the rate and style of play but time and time again the Wolves shut them down.  And as the final whistle blew a feeling of joy, and relief for the Timberline parents, swept over the team  as they earned a spot in the State final.

With that they also earn a chance to do something NO TEAM has ever done before, win a district, academic, and state championship in the same season!  The Rocky Mountain Grizzlies stand in their way, and will be met Saturday at 7pm on their home field.  This is it the final game of the season and for the seniors the final game of their high school career, so if you haven’t come out to support your Wolves this is the night to do it.  For those Timberline faithful who represent the best fans in the valley I will see you their tonight, GO WOLVES!!!!!!!!
